{"id":28615,"date":"2026-03-25T11:06:06","date_gmt":"2026-03-25T11:06:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/magventureeducate.com\/?post_type=articles&#038;p=28615"},"modified":"2026-04-14T07:25:46","modified_gmt":"2026-04-14T07:25:46","slug":"tms-ptsd-real-world-evidence-protocols","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/magventureeducate.com\/?articles=tms-ptsd-real-world-evidence-protocols","title":{"rendered":"Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) for PTSD: Insights from a Multisite Real-World Cohort"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Posttraumatic stress disorder (<strong>PTSD<\/strong>) remains a complex and often persistent condition, particularly among military Veterans, where symptom burden may continue despite psychotherapy and pharmacological interventions. In this context, <strong>transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)<\/strong>, a non-invasive neuromodulation technique, is increasingly being explored in clinical research, although it is <strong>not currently approved for the treatment of PTSD<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A large multisite retrospective cohort study from the <strong>VA Clinical TMS Program<\/strong> provides real-world data on the use of TMS in patients with PTSD and comorbid major depressive disorder. The study included <strong>more than 750 Veterans across over 30 clinical sites<\/strong>, with 658 patients receiving one of three <strong>FDA-cleared TMS protocols for depression<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this cohort, <strong>TMS was associated with clinically meaningful reductions in PTSD symptom severity<\/strong> across all evaluated stimulation protocols, including <strong>10 Hz repetitive TMS (rTMS)<\/strong>, <strong>intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS)<\/strong>, and <strong>&#8220;deep&#8221; TMS (dTMS)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Response rates ranged from 63 to 78 percent<\/strong>, while <strong>remission rates ranged from 47 to 49 percent<\/strong>, with <strong>no statistically significant differences observed between protocols<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Depressive symptoms also improved across treatment groups<\/strong>, consistent with the presence of comorbid major depressive disorder. A <strong>modest association between longer treatment duration and greater symptom improvement<\/strong> was observed, while differences between stimulation approaches remained limited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These findings provide <strong>real-world evidence on how TMS is being applied in patients with PTSD<\/strong> within a large healthcare system. The results indicate that <strong>multiple stimulation protocols may be associated with similar clinical outcomes<\/strong> in this population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a <strong>retrospective cohort analysis<\/strong>, the study describes associations observed in routine clinical practice and <strong>does not establish causality or comparative efficacy between protocols<\/strong>. Further <strong>prospective and controlled studies<\/strong> are needed to better define the role of TMS in PTSD and to clarify optimal treatment parameters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\"
